A Surgical Procedure for
Comfort & Function
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the labia — the folds of skin surrounding the vaginal opening. It can be considered for both functional reasons (such as discomfort, hygiene difficulties, or changes after childbirth) and personal reasons about appearance. Both are valid and discussed in detail during consultation.
Depending on individual needs, the procedure may involve the labia minora, labia majora, clitoral hood, mons pubis, or perineum. In everyday language, it may also be referred to as labia reduction or female genital surgery.

Reasons Patients Consider
Labiaplasty
Every woman's anatomy is unique. The size and shape of the labia vary widely and are all within the range of normal. Some women, however, experience symptoms or changes that lead them to consider this procedure.
Physical Discomfort
Pain or irritation during exercise, cycling, or everyday activities.
Clothing Difficulty
Discomfort when wearing tight clothing, activewear, or swimwear.
Recurrent Irritation
Excess tissue may make hygiene more difficult or lead to recurrent irritation.
Changes After Life Events
Childbirth, ageing, or hormonal changes can alter labial tissue over time.
Appearance Concerns
Personal concerns about the size, shape, or symmetry of the labia.
Previous Unsatisfactory Surgery
Corrective revision labiaplasty for patients who have had a prior procedure.

The DOVE Surgical
Technique
Dr Georgina Konrat developed the DOVE Surgical Technique over 18 years ago and continues to use and develop the approach. DOVE is designed to address the labia minora and surrounding skin, including the clitoral hood and perineum. It can also involve the labia majora and mons pubis when required.
Addresses multiple areas in a single procedure when clinically appropriate
Planned around individual anatomy rather than one fixed excision pattern
Aims to minimise unnecessary tissue removal where appropriate

Process
Consultation & Referral
A GP referral is required. Two separate consultations (at least one in person) are needed before surgery. There is a mandatory 7-day cooling-off period.
Pre-Operative Preparation
Stop smoking 6 weeks before surgery. Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications for 2 weeks. Arrange transport home and plan 1–2 weeks off work.
The Day of Surgery
Performed in an accredited day surgery facility with an all-female clinical team. The procedure takes 1–2 hours, with anaesthetic options including oral sedation or general anaesthetic.
Recovery & Follow-Up
Rest for 1–2 weeks. Gradual return to light activities at 2–4 weeks. Exercise and sexual activity typically resume at 4–6 weeks, as advised by Dr Konrat.

What to Expect
After Surgery
Recovery varies between individuals. Most patients experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the first one to two weeks. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing.
Rest & Initial Healing
Rest at home. Swelling and bruising are normal. Pain medication will be prescribed. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Gradual Return to Activities
Light activities can resume. Continue to avoid strenuous exercise. Attend follow-up appointments to monitor healing.
Return to Exercise
Most patients can return to exercise and sexual activity, as advised by Dr Konrat. Some swelling may remain.
Final Results Emerge
Swelling may take several months to fully resolve. Final results become apparent over time as tissues settle.
